4th Annual Walk Bike LI Summit – Free

The summit will focus on the growing impact of micromobility devices — including e-bikes and e-scooters — and the legal, medical, and public safety challenges surrounding their use.

As e-bikes and e-scooters become increasingly common on Long Island streets, concerns over safety, enforcement, and rider awareness are also growing.
A panel of experts is expected to discuss accident prevention, traffic laws, rider responsibilities, pedestrian safety, helmet use, enforcement challenges, and possible solutions aimed at improving roadway safety across Long Island.
Organizers say the event is intended to educate residents, policymakers, parents, and community leaders about both the benefits and risks associated with the rapidly expanding use of electric mobility devices.
Organizers say the issue has become increasingly urgent as pediatric trauma admissions related to e-bikes and e-scooters surged by more than 900% at a local children’s hospital. Officials say the sharp increase in severe injuries is largely driven by riders under 16 years old, many of whom are riding without helmets and violating New York State micromobility laws.
