HUNTINGTON STATION, NY – Faith and Blue is a national initiative that works to strengthen relationships between faith-based organizations, local communities, and law enforcement. This year’s event on Monday, October 13th was hosted at the Huntington Assembly Church in Huntington Station, where, despite the rain outside, the atmosphere inside was filled with light, laughter, and creativity.

Children, families, Town officials, and members of the Suffolk County Police Department’s 2nd Precinct all came together to paint two beautiful murals. The idea for the project was sparked by the 2nd Precinct, which approached the church with the vision of using art to bring people closer together.

Community Liaison Officer Kat Licul, a talented artist, collaborated closely with Pastor Dan and Pastor Jose to choose the perfect location for the murals – the church’s basement – a space where the children gather. Working with Pastor Jose on the design, Officer Kat led the creative process, spending three days outlining the murals in preparation for the community to bring them to life with color.

Adding to the day’s excitement, attendees were introduced to Hamilton, the SCPD’s first therapy dog. Hamilton was donated to the department by Puppies Behind Bars, an organization that trains incarcerated individuals to raise service dogs for wounded veterans, first responders, and facility dogs for police departments. Suffolk County’s new program is part of a broader effort to address mental health and wellness within law enforcement. Hamilton’s primary role is to provide emotional support for officers, but he’ll also attend community events and visit local schools, helping to build positive connections wherever he goes. The day concluded with delicious pizza for all, generously donated by Dough & Co. in Huntington.

Faith and Blue showcased what makes the 2nd Precinct area special – people of all ages, backgrounds, and professions coming together in faith and friendship to make their community brighter.
