Monday, October 6, 2025 was a beautiful evening in Huntington’s Heckscher Park as the community gathered to raise the Italian flag and celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of Huntington’s Italian-American community.
The ceremony began with stirring performances of both the National Anthem and the Italian Anthem by talented students from Walt Whitman High School. Supervisor Ed Smyth, Councilwoman Theresa Mari, Highway Superintendent Andre Sorrentino, Councilman Dr. Dave Bennardo, and Receiver of Taxes Gillian Guthman each shared words of praise and gratitude, recognizing the many contributions of Italian-Americans to the town.
A special moment of the night honored Vita Scaturro, who was presented with a beautiful bouquet in recognition of her vision and dedication as the driving force behind the establishment of Italian-American Heritage Month and the flag-raising tradition in the Town of Huntington.
Following the ceremony, guests gathered around a table filled with Italian specialties generously provided by Sapori del Vallo and other local businesses, a delicious and fitting conclusion to an evening of pride, culture, and community spirit.
