Honami Sushi and Hibachi - All You Can Eat: Featured

I was sitting at the light on Route 110 in front of Walt Whitman Shops when…double take…”Honami Sushi Hibachi Restaurant‘s NEW All You Can Eat Sushi Dinner – $36.99″! I immediately called my husband and announced “I know where we’re going for my birthday” [a few weeks later]. Sushi birthday dinner is a tradition for Lance and I…along with Sushi Mother’ Day, Sushi Father’s Day, Sushi Anniversary, etc. The restaurant MUST be tried and true – Margolin approved – and Honami has been at the top of the list for a guaranteed lovely night out since they opened in early 2024. The sushi fish is always very fresh, excellent quality and beautifully prepared. Their hibachi meals are delicious, and the Honami staff always makes sure that my meals are safe – accommodating my food allergies with utmost care. The “All You Can Eat” sign on THAT building at 179 Walt Whitman Road, Huntington Station, NY brought a wave of milestone memories and celebrations at the Chinese and Sushi “East Buffet” then “Best Buffet” that was there for about 15 years.

Honami Sushi and Hibachi’s All You Can Eat menu items are prepared fresh per order, and all items on the very extensive menu are included along with cocktail specials during a 90 minute seating. All guests at the same table must order from the same menu – either the All You Can Eat or their regular menu. The All You Can Eat menu categories offered are Soup, Salad, Sushi & Sashimi A La Carte, Sushi Bar Appetizer, Kitchen Appetizer (cooked), 25 Roll or Hand Roll choices, 20 different Special Rolls, Kitchen Entrée (Teriyaki), Katsu & Tempura, Noodle/Rice, Hibachi Entrée and Dessert. You can order as many items as you’d like from your server at the same time, with a caveat that the server will bring out subsequent rounds of food when your current round is mostly finished. Our server Peter was fantastic, visiting our table every 15 minutes or so to take additional orders. While the Kitchen Entrée and Hibachi Entrée menu items are a single serving of protein at approximately 5 ounces, the fried rice that typically accompanies Hibachi can be ordered separately. I recommend that your table shares one fried rice portion so you can try other things on the menu. The menu states “Please don’t waste food and no take out. We reserve the right to impose a surcharge of $14.99 per pound of food waste.” which we found absolutely fair considering the expansive menu and affordable price. The All You Can Eat menu Dinner for Adults and Kids over 5 feet tall is $36.99 per person, $20.99 for Kids Under 5 feet tall, and $8.99 for Kids under 3 feet tall. The Lunch Menu is available Monday through Friday from 12:00PM to 4:00PM with reduced rates of $26.99 for Adults, $15.99 for Kids Under 5 feet tall, and $6.99 for Kids Under 3 feet tall. Choosing Sashimi instead of Sushi adds $5 per person.

Standout selections for my family were the Salmon Hibachi, Salmon Teriyaki, Gyoza dumplings, and the Steak Teriyaki cut of meat was favored over the Hibachi Angus Steak. Every one of the many Sushi pieces, Rolls and Special Rolls were superb. The portion sizes were perfect for my Mom who loves to try a variety of things but doesn’t eat a lot. My youngest son thought the kitchen forgot the 3 sushi pieces that he ordered, but they didn’t. They put them on my husband’s tray and he ate them thinking “How nice! They gave me a few extra!”. Peter quickly brought out replacements and all was well.

Honomi’s charming Manager Michael visited each table in the nearly full dining room – on a Tuesday! While we chatted, I shared that I was curious how they could make an affordable All You Can Eat menu work in these challenging economic times for restaurants, while retaining the high quality Honami is known for. Was it going to be another Buffet? Michael had no idea about the building’s legacy. We were truly shocked to see the huge variety of items on the menu, and the “rules” that seemed a little odd initially are exactly what they need to be successful. WHEN you visit, I recommend making a reservation and please plan to tip your server very generously as this new Menu style requires a lot more table visits, ordering and attention.

My sons have some advice for you too. If you’re with anyone with extensive food allergies like their Mom, then order your food first or you may lose 30 minutes of your 90 minute seating waiting on the necessary back and forth communications with the kitchen! Ultimately, they were relieved to learn that Peter started the 90 minute clock with the first served order. My boys were stuffed to the gills within an hour anyway. I had a lovely birthday dinner at Honami and we will absolutely be going back again for their All You Can Eat menu. When you visit, please mention to the staff that you learned about the new menu in Huntington Matters!
