HUNTINGTON, NY – October 24, 2026
On Saturday, October 24, the Huntington community came together at Heckscher Park for the Annual Wellness Walk for Hope, presented by Councilwoman Theresa Mari and the Town of Huntington Opioid and Addiction Task Force. Community organizations shared resources for recovery, mental health, family support, and youth services, while families enjoyed activities for children. The event was supported by NYU Langone Health, Long Island Counseling, the Ferro Foundation, and community partners.
During the ceremony, Gary Lupinacci, Community Relations Liaison at Mountainside Treatment Center, announced that Mountainside and Huntington Matters are offering an addiction treatment scholarship in memory of Christopher Revell. The scholarship will help a Town of Huntington resident access Day Treatment, also known as a Partial Hospitalization Program, at Mountainside’s Huntington Outpatient Center. Born and raised in Huntington, Chris is the son of Huntington Matters Director Diane Schaber. He loved his family, baseball, and his community. He continued playing on a local men’s team as an adult while struggling with substance use that began in his teenage years. Chris tragically died of an overdose in 2020. The scholarship honors his memory by helping someone struggling with addiction receive the care and support they need, something Chris would have wanted for others.
