The Town of Huntington is proud to offer a Free Naloxone Training session for high school and college students, this important initiative is proudly hosted by Councilwoman Theresa Mari. The event will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 4:30 PM in the Town Board Room at Huntington Town Hall, 100 Main Street, Huntington.
This training, led by Barry Zaks, Director of the Huntington Drug & Alcohol Counseling Center, will teach attendees how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer Naloxone (Narcan), a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose.
With opioid-related overdoses continuing to impact communities across Long Island and beyond, this training offers students a powerful way to be part of the solution. Whether you’re preparing for college, interested in healthcare or public service, or simply want to be ready to help a friend or loved one in need—this session is for you.
Students who attend will not only gain critical knowledge, but also receive community service credit, a free Naloxone kit, and a powerful addition to their college or job resumes. Most importantly, they will leave empowered with the confidence to potentially save a life.
Being trained in Naloxone is more than a skill—it’s a way to show up for your community and be ready to make a difference in a crisis. Students will join a growing network of young leaders across the Town of Huntington who are taking proactive steps to protect their community and prepare when it counts most.
This program is especially valuable for students preparing for college, entering the workforce, volunteering in the community, or spending time in social settings where they may one day need to assist someone in crisis. By attending, students will gain practical emergency-response knowledge that can be used to protect friends, classmates, family members, and others in need.
“Equipping students with this knowledge gives them the ability to make a real difference when it matters most,” said Councilwoman Mari. “This training empowers young people to look out for one another and helps strengthen the safety and well-being of our entire community.”
