Suffolk County Police have arrested a man after he desecrated a tombstone, threw rocks at passing vehicles and fought with police officers last night in Huntington.
Michael Laraque was standing at the edge of Huntington Rural Cemetery, located at 555 New York Ave., throwing rocks into the street on July 7th at approximately 6:30 p.m. The rocks damaged three passing motor vehicles and broke a window at Laura’s Dance Studio, located at 586 New York Ave. When police officers arrived at the scene, Laraque ran into the cemetery, knocked over and damaged a tombstone. He then started fighting with the two responding officers before being taken into custody.
Second Squad detectives charged Laraque, 31, who is undomiciled, with Cemetery Desecration 1st Degree, Menacing 2nd Degree, five counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, and two counts of Assault 2nd Degree. He was transported to Huntington Hospital for evaluation and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
