Freedom Beats: A Juneteenth Tribute to Long Island Hip Hop Legends

Freedom Beats is a full-day cultural and media arts experience honoring the legacy, artistry, and lived history of Long Island hip hop.

Hosted by Share Inform Enlighten and The Carll Hill Foundation, in partnership with the Cinema Arts Centre, this Juneteenth program brings together film, dialogue, music, and community engagement in a dynamic celebration of regional cultural impact.
The event features the documentary film Long Island Underground Legends of Hip Hop, directed by filmmaker Archie Snowden.
The screening will be followed by a live panel discussion featuring filmmakers, legendary hip hop artists, and cultural contributors, offering audiences the opportunity to engage directly with the stories and voices that helped shape Long Island’s hip hop movement.
Special Guest: DJ Kool Herc, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and Grammy Winner.
Throughout the day, guests will enjoy light refreshments, music curated by the Legendary DJ Belal, and a dedicated Video Lounge where short oral history interviews will be recorded to document the ongoing cultural influence of hip hop in our region.
