Commack Fire Department Blood Drive in Honor of Glen Ciano
Blood supply levels are at critical levels with hospitals in the tri-state region possessing barely a two-day supply.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, Commack Fire District Chairman of the Board Pat Fazio and New York Blood Center representatives joined Susan Ciano, widow of Suffolk County Police Officer Glen Ciano, to implore the public to attend the 16th Annual Glen Ciano blood drive this weekend to make a lifesaving donation.
During the blood drive, which will be held at the Commack Fire Department, 6309 Jericho Turnpike, Commack, on February 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., donations will be collected for Long Island Cares, a food bank aimed at combating hunger and food insecurity across Long Island.
The annual event is held in honor of Officer Ciano, who was the 22nd member of Suffolk County Police Department killed in the line of duty. He died Feb. 22, 2009. Ciano was a 22-year veteran of the 2nd Precinct based in Huntington, which at the time had 21 patrol cars under its command. When Ciano died, the precinct retired his car and the next patrol squad car, No. 222, was named in Ciano’s honor.
