HUNTINGTON STATION, NY – August 24, 2026
Local high school soccer took center stage at Breezy Park Friday evening as the Walt Whitman Wildcats and Huntington Blue Devils faced off in the Huntington Carnival Showdown, bringing two hometown programs together during the Huntington Human Services Institute’s Summer Carnival.
The free community event, held Friday, August 14, was presented by the Huntington Human Services Institute, Inc. in collaboration with Huntington Inter FC.
When the final whistle blew, the Walt Whitman Wildcats came away with the victory, with Whitman’s Edwin Alfaro earning Most Valuable Player honors.
Representing Huntington as team captains were Robbie Campbell and Ezra Oddoye. Walt Whitman was led by captains Lucas Flores, Edwin Alfaro, Luis Jandres and Carlos Morales.
The Huntington coaching staff included John Pagano, Coach Nelson and Coach Moreira, while John DiGiacomo coached Walt Whitman.
The matchup marked the second year that Huntington Inter FC has organized soccer matches in conjunction with the Summer Carnival, according to Huntington Inter FC’s Jose F. Alfaro.
The evening was designed to be more than a soccer match. The Carnival Showdown brought together players, families and supporters from both school communities and also featured a Cross Bar Challenge and Power Shot Challenge, along with the games, music, food and attractions of the Summer Carnival.
With Huntington and Walt Whitman representing neighboring communities within the Town of Huntington, the event embraced a simple theme: “Passion. Pride. Community.”
The Huntington Carnival Showdown was part of the 2026 Summer Carnival at Breezy Park weekend that included several athletic events at Breezy Park including Saturday’s 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament and 3 Point Shooting Contest, and Sunday’s Girl’s Championship Flag Football game.
