Enjoy exclusive access to the historic home of American modernist artists Helen Torr and Arthur Dove during this open house event!
Located at 30 Centershore Road, Centerport, NY, just several miles from the Museum, the cottage was the residence of Arthur Dove and Helen Torr from 1938 to 1946. When Dove passed away in 1946, Torr continued to live in the cottage until her death in 1967. The Heckscher Museum of Art is proud to preserve and steward this historic property and open the interior of the property to the public during this special event.
Learn more about the story of Arthur Dove and Helen Torr from Curatorial staff and docent volunteers throughout the day. At 12:30, enjoy a special reading of poems inspired by the life and work of Dove and Torr by award-winning poet Jesse Curran. Observe artist Edward Lee as he paints en plein air and join in! We will have a selection of painting and drawing materials available for both adults and kids.
And don’t forget to also explore the Dove/Torr Cottage Soundwalk using your phone in the Museum’s digital guide in the Bloomberg Connects app!
This is a Free Event with limited parking available.
