Suffolk County Police Department Fire Incident Press Release

Woman Seriously Injured in House Fire

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY – Issued March 25, 2026

Suffolk County Police Arson Unit detectives are investigating a fire that seriously injured a woman at a residence in Huntington Station today.

Suffolk County Second Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a residential fire at 18 Prospect Drive North on March 25, 2026 at approximately 3 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters from the Huntington Manor Fire Department entered and rescued Linda D’Andrade, a resident of the home, from the fire.

D’Andrade, 79, was transported via ambulance to Huntington Hospital for treatment of serious physical injuries. There were no other injuries reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be non-criminal.

Child Seriously Injured in Dix Hills Fire

DIX HILLS, NY – Issued March 25, 2026

Suffolk County Police Arson Unit detectives are investigating a fire that seriously injured a child in Dix Hills on March 25, 2026.

Second Precinct officers responded to a 911 call after a Dix Hills volunteer firefighter reported driving past 284 Marlin Street and noticed a woman, Nicole Heller, who was unconscious on the lawn and suffering a medical emergency at approximately 5:05 p.m.

Upon arrival, three officers and the good Samaritan observed smoke coming from the house. Officers Joshua Palas, Kevin Turner, and Daniel Giustino, along with the volunteer firefighter, entered the home and used fire extinguishers to put out the flames while Police Officer Danielle Adames rendered first aid to Heller outside. While inside the home, the officers heard a child screaming from upstairs. Officer Palas went upstairs through heavy smoke and found 9-year-old Jacob Heller in an upstairs bathroom with severe burns.

Officer Palas brought Heller outside where first responders rendered first aid. He was transported via ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition.

Nicole Heller, 39, was also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment following her medical emergency.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and believed to be non-criminal in nature.
