Lunch and Learn with Toby Kissam- Maria Gambarelli
Toby Kissam is a local historian and a serving board member for a number of Huntington institutions including the Huntington Historical Society, Preservation Long Island, and Van Wyck-Lefferts Tide Mill Sanctuary. He has worked with the Huntington Historical Society for many years and will be giving a talk on Maria Gambarelli.
Maria Gambarelli was a Prima Ballerina who eventually retired in Huntington. She was born in Italy in 1900 and immigrated to the United States with her family as an infant, she was raised in New York City where she became a dancer and the protege to the Prima Ballerina at the Metropolitan Opera Company, Anna Pavolva. Gambarelli had many accomplishments, among them was the creation of a group called the “Roxyettes” which would later become the world famous “Rockettes.”
