Community Moments That Reflect Huntington

This week’s episode opened with one of those genuine, unscripted moments that just happens when we’re together. It quickly turned into laughter and connection, and honestly, those are the moments that longtime followers of Huntington Matters have come to expect from us.

For more than a decade, the platform has been built on real relationships and authentic conversations. Those small moments, often unplanned, continue to resonate because they reflect what makes this community different. Neighbors showing up for each other in real ways.

Local Events and Community Highlights

Spring has officially arrived in Huntington, and the calendar is filling up quickly.

The Hope and Healing sculpture was recently blessed, creating a space for reflection and support within the community. The project, years in the making, represents a collaborative effort by the Town of Huntington Opioid Task Force and continues to draw visitors seeking a place to pause and reflect.

Downtown Huntington also saw a busy week, including Ben and Jerry’s Free Cone Day, where donations supported the Tri CYA’s programs, and a ribbon cutting for Fortunoff Backyard Store, now located in the former Sam Ash building. The new showroom brings a high-end outdoor furniture destination back into a familiar local space.

Looking ahead, the Earth Day celebration at West Hills County Park will bring together families, environmental groups, and local organizations for a day of education and activities. Residents are encouraged to check the Huntington Matters Community Calendar for additional Earth Day events happening across town.

Another meaningful event this weekend is the Tri Village Little League field dedication, honoring Corey Phelan, a young Huntington resident whose legacy continues to impact the community.

The Huntington Historical Society Liberty 250 bus tour, following George Washington’s 1790 route through Huntington, has already sold out. It is a reminder to residents to check the calendar frequently and secure tickets early for high-demand events.

The 16th Annual Huntington Station Spring Cleanup is also approaching, bringing together volunteers to help clean and beautify the community. The event continues to be a strong example of neighbors working together and taking pride in their shared spaces. Sign up to volunteer with us!

As always, there are many more events happening across the Town of Huntington. Residents are encouraged to visit the Community Calendar for a full list of upcoming activities and to submit their own events.

Development Update: Melville Town Center Project Moves Forward

Melville Crossing, the proposed mixed-use development at 75 Maxess Road in Melville has received Town Board approval in a 4 to 1 vote.

The project will redevelop a large office and industrial site into a 16.2-acre mixed-use residential and commercial space within the Melville Town Center. While there has been discussion and differing opinions from residents and officials, the approval marks the first of what may be several similar proposals in the area.

Residents can review the full Town Board meeting for detailed discussion and context behind the decision.

Greenlawn Broadway Improvements Progress

A well-attended public meeting highlighted the Broadway improvements project in Greenlawn, a long-anticipated effort focused on pedestrian and traffic safety.

The Town of Huntington is moving forward with traffic calming measures, including new crosswalk alignments, flashing pedestrian signals, adjusted parking layouts, and road striping designed to naturally slow traffic.

The project is on a tight timeline and reflects decades of advocacy by the Greenlawn Civic Association. Once complete, these improvements are expected to make the area safer for both drivers and pedestrians.

Community Awareness: Daycare Investigation in Northport

A serious situation is unfolding in Northport involving The Learning Experience Daycare on Fort Salonga Road.

According to reports, Suffolk County Police Department Special Victims Unit detectives are investigating allegations that a child may have been abused by a daycare worker at that location. No individuals have been publicly identified and the investigation remains ongoing.

State records from the New York Office of Children and Family Services show the center has multiple substantiated violations that were not corrected, including improper discipline practices such as corporal punishment and incidents where staff actions were found to frighten or humiliate a child. There were also failures to report suspected abuse and concerns about staff qualifications.

These findings are specific to the Northport location and not other centers operated by the company.

Residents are encouraged to remain informed, ask questions, and advocate for their children.

Neighborhood Watch: Dog Park Incident Update

The investigation into the West Hills County Park dog stabbing incident remains ongoing.

The dog, Sunny, who had been in the process of being adopted by a local family, passed away from her injuries shortly after the incident. The case has been referred to the Suffolk County SPCA and the Suffolk County District Attorney for review.

As of now, no arrests have been made. Huntington Matters will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

E-Bike Safety: What Residents Need to Know

Recent e-bike accidents involving teenagers have raised serious concerns across the community.

One incident in Greenlawn and another along Jericho Turnpike left a young rider critically injured.

Key Suffolk County rules include:

Riders must be at least 16 years old

Helmets are required for all riders

E-bikes are only permitted on roads with speed limits of 30 mph or less

Higher-speed e-bikes may not be permitted

These devices are significantly more powerful than traditional bicycles, and many riders underestimate the speed and control required.

Families are encouraged to have direct conversations about safety and usage.

Neighborhood Watch: Theft Alert in East Northport

A recent incident in East Northport involved the theft of an ATV and multiple dirt bikes from a residential property.

Surveillance images show individuals entering the property and removing the vehicles. Residents who recognize the individuals or vehicles are encouraged to contact Suffolk County Police Department at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Residents are advised to meet buyers in neutral locations and avoid showing how vehicles are stored at their homes.

Facebook Nicknames Are Getting Out of Hand

Huntington Matters addressed concerns around Facebook’s nickname feature, which allows anonymous posting within groups.

While intended to encourage participation, it has also led to misuse. Huntington Matters Community Forum Administrators are monitoring activity closely and exploring options to limit or remove the feature if possible.

Respectful communication is expected regardless of how a comment is posted.

Emergency Preparedness Reminder

Residents are encouraged to sign up for Town of Huntington emergency alerts and register for Smart911, making sure their information is current.

Providing accurate information can help first responders act quickly and effectively during emergencies.

Town of Huntington Emergency Preparedness Handbook.

HUNTINGTON, NY

Community members, local leaders, and advocates gathered at Heckscher Park on Sunday, April 12, 2026, for a ceremony centered on remembrance, resilience, and recovery. The Hope & Healing Statue Blessing Ceremony brought residents together to honor lives impacted by addiction.

Hosted by Councilwoman Theresa Mari, artist Susan Buroker, and the Town of Huntington Opioid & Addiction Task Force, the event marked the continued presence of the sculpture installed last summer, now a visible symbol for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.

Pastor Matthew Means of Old First Presbyterian Church spoke about witnessing the project take shape from nearby,“I have the privilege of having an office space right in the back corner of this building,” he said. “When this sculpture was first announced and the work began, I got the chance to text Sharon all the time about the progress and what a joy it was. Now, having had this sculpture present, I can tell you that what I see week by week is the embodiment of the hope and healing that we hoped for in creating this space.”

Following remarks from town officials, task force members, and a blessing by Pastor Means, a plaque was presented honoring former Town of Huntington Councilman Sal Ferro for his dedication to addressing addiction in the community. His work was recognized as part of Huntington’s efforts around awareness, prevention, and recovery.

Buroker spoke directly to that impact, “When many chose to look away, you chose to step forward,” she said. “When addiction was something whispered about in the shadows, you had the strength to bring it into the light. You recognized that this is not just an issue, but a disease that affects families.”

As the program wrapped up, attention shifted back to the sculpture and the plaque recognizing Ferro’s contribution, now part of the park and the town’s ongoing work.

Watch the full episode below and please subscribe to our YouTube channel.

Dog Park Incident Raises Concern in West Hills

One of the most talked-about topics this week in Huntington Matters Community Forum was a disturbing incident at the West Hills County Park dog park.

According to reports, a man stabbed a dog and later told police he “did what he had to do.”

For many local residents, this park is more than just a place to walk dogs. Diane and Dana both shared that they regularly bring their dogs there and are part of a supportive, familiar community of dog owners who look out for one another.

They noted that in their experience, there have not been issues like this, and that dog parks can be safe, positive environments when used appropriately. For those new to dog parks, it’s recommended to visit during less crowded times or slowly acclimate dogs on leash over multiple visits before allowing full group interaction.

Missing Person Update and Ongoing Search

There was encouraging news this week regarding Justin Rodriguez, who has been found safe in Manhattan and referred for medical attention.

However, the community is still being asked to stay alert for Joseph Competiello of Elwood, age 55, approximately 5’8” tall, 160 pounds, with brown eyes and a shaved head.

As always, residents are encouraged to report any information to Suffolk County Police Department at 1-800-220-TIPS and to continue sharing updates when possible.

A Busy Week of Events Across Huntington

It was a big weekend across Huntington, with thousands of families attending Easter events throughout the town.

The Town of Huntington hosted an egg hunt with 4,000 eggs, while the United Lutheran Church event welcomed nearly 800 children.

Looking ahead, there are many opportunities to get involved.

The Historic Cemetery Restoration Project continues this weekend, and volunteers are being sought to help clean and maintain Revolutionary War burial sites ahead of the upcoming Liberty 250 commemoration.

On Sunday, the Hope and Healing Statue Blessing Ceremony will take place at Heckscher Park, bringing together community members, local leaders, and families for a meaningful event.

Residents can also begin registering for the Town of Huntington’s Project Play and St. John’s summer camp programs, which open this week for income-qualified families.

Additional meetings and events include:

Public Information Session on Broadway Safety Improvements in Greenlawn
Town Board Meeting at Town Hall
Mobile American Flag Drop-Off Program at East Northport Public Library for proper retirement of worn flags

There are many more events happening throughout the week. Be sure to visit the Huntington Matters Community Calendar for full details and to submit your own events.

Huntington Station DRI Meeting Draws Community Attention

Discussion this week also centered around the Huntington Station Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) streetscape meeting.

Residents continue to follow plans that include improvements to sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, and public spaces throughout the area. As we covered in last week’s episode, these changes are expected to impact the look and feel of Huntington Station in the coming years.

Community feedback remains an important part of the process, and meetings like this provide residents with an opportunity to stay informed and engaged.

Neighborhood Watch: Updates from the 2nd Precinct

This week’s Neighborhood Watch update included both positive news and important changes.

In addition to the update on Justin Rodriguez, residents learned that Captain Dennis McKeefery has returned to the 2nd Precinct. He previously served as a COPE officer and worked as a Detective alongside Inspector Rivera.

Captain Kyle Simcox was also recognized as he moves into a new county-wide position.

Residents are encouraged to stay connected through Huntington Matters for ongoing Neighborhood Watch updates.

Warmer Weather and Seasonal Preparedness Tips

With temperatures expected to reach the 70s this week, it’s a good time to check both tree and bush maintenance around your property.

A simple but important tip shared this week focuses on removing the “3 Ds” — dead, damaged, or diseased branches. Residents should also clear branches away from power lines and rooftops, and thin interior growth to reduce wind resistance during storms.

Taking these steps now can help prevent damage later.

Charity Spotlight: American Legion Posts Across Huntington

This week’s spotlight focused on the American Legion, with three active posts serving the Huntington community in Huntington, Greenlawn, and Northport.

Founded in 1919, the American Legion has spent more than a century supporting veterans, servicemembers, and local communities.

Their work continues locally through advocacy, programs, and outreach, while also supporting national efforts that have shaped benefits for generations of veterans.

Huntington Matters also continues its Huntington Matters Gives Back efforts, honoring and remembering Al Statton, creator of the Operation Enduring Care program supporting homeless veterans. These ongoing contributions help continue his mission and support veterans in need within our community.

A Community on Alert: Help Locate Missing Resident

This week’s update opened with an urgent call for help from the community.

Suffolk County Police are asking for assistance in locating Justin Rodriguez, a 30-year-old Huntington resident who was reported missing after last being seen near Breezy Park in Huntington Station.

According to updates shared by family members, Justin may have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time he disappeared. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any information to Suffolk County Police.

Easter Weekend Across Huntington: Egg Hunts & Family Events

With Easter weekend here, Huntington is packed with events for families across town.

From the Town of Huntington’s Easter Egg Hunt at Elwood Park to events at local farms, churches, and community organizations, there are eight or more egg hunts happening this weekend alone, including options for younger children and sensory-friendly experiences.

There are also events like Northport’s Shop & Hop and even a “Leftovers Egg Hunt” happening after the holiday.

And that’s just a small sample. There are many more events happening across the Town of Huntington this week. Be sure to check the Huntington Matters Community Calendar for the full list.

Huntington Station DRI Meeting & SCPD 2nd Precinct Meeting (April 7)

Two important community meetings are happening on April 7, and both are worth attending.

The Huntington Station Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Streetscape Meeting will take place at the Huntington Community First Aid Squad at 6:00pm. This builds on last week’s episode where we discussed the DRI plans in detail, including proposed improvements like sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, and public spaces.

Later that evening, the Suffolk County Police Department 2nd Precinct Community Meeting will be held at 7:00pm at the South Huntington Public Library. Residents can speak directly with officers, ask questions, and stay informed about local safety concerns.

Neighborhood Watch: Scam Alert Impacting Local Businesses

This week’s Neighborhood Watch segment highlighted a scam affecting small businesses across Long Island.

A “short change” scammer has been targeting local delis and shops, using distraction and sleight-of-hand tactics to confuse cashiers and walk away with cash.

Local businesses are encouraged to:

Keep bills visible until transactions are complete

Count change back clearly

Train staff on common scam tactics

Business owners should report any similar incidents to the Suffolk County Police Department immediately. If you recognize this individual, call 1-800-220-TIPS. And if this has happened to you, do not feel embarrassed. This is happening across Long Island and is designed to trick even experienced employees.

Organ Donation Awareness & Local Impact

April is Organ Donation Awareness Month, and the Town of Huntington marked the occasion with a flag-raising ceremony and community stories that left a lasting impression.

Residents heard directly from organ recipients and donors, including local town employees whose lives were saved through transplantation.

One organ donor can save up to eight lives and help many more through tissue donation. It was a powerful reminder of how one decision can impact an entire community.

Let’s Talk Huntington: Building Community Conversations

Councilwoman Jen Hebert’s “Let’s Talk, Huntington” event brought residents together for an open, roundtable-style conversation about local issues.

The goal is to make this a monthly series, rotating across different areas of Huntington. Huntington Matters will continue to share upcoming dates through the Community Calendar so residents can participate.

More Events, Fundraisers & Community Highlights

Beyond Easter weekend, there is no shortage of ways to get involved across Huntington.

Highlights this week include:

Paws For Our Heroes – A fundraiser supporting Paws of War, helping provide service dogs to veterans

Free art exhibits at the Heckscher Museum of Art and Moksha Café

Creative community gatherings like Stitch n Bitch – the Nautilus Roasting fiber arts meetup

The upcoming HSLQ & Huntington Matters Huntington Station Spring Cleanup on May 3rd

There are many more events happening throughout the week, so be sure to check the Community Calendar for the full list.

Emergency Preparedness: A Real-Life Lesson

This week’s preparedness tip came from real experience.

After June experienced a home flooding incident, an important lesson emerged. When water damage happens, stop the source of the water, document everything, and call professionals immediately. Do not rush to clean it up before insurance guidance, as hidden moisture can cause serious long-term damage.

One preventative tip shared by 1-800 Water Damage remediation experts is especially helpful for homeowners. When finishing lower levels of your home, install sheetrock and insulation approximately two inches above the floor, and use base moulding to cover the gap. This allows water to pass underneath without soaking into walls, which can prevent widespread and costly damage.

Additional measures like water sensors and automatic shut-off systems can also help protect your home.

Charity Spotlight: Helping Hand Rescue Mission

This week’s spotlight featured Helping Hand Rescue Mission, which supports over 1,000 local families each month with food, clothing, and essential supplies.

Their work goes far beyond a traditional food pantry. They provide fresh produce, meat, dairy, household essentials, and ongoing support for families in crisis. Programs like “Baby Blessings” distribute diapers and supplies to families with young children, while seasonal efforts include hundreds of Easter baskets for local kids.

What stands out this time of year is how different parts of the community come together. Organizations like the Jewish Nutrition Network regularly partner with Helping Hand to provide large-scale food donations, showing how neighbors of different faiths support one another across Huntington.

HUNTINGTON, NY – April 1, 2026

The Town of Huntington marked the start of Donate Life Month on Wednesday with a flag raising ceremony at Veterans Plaza, bringing together elected officials, nonprofit leaders, and residents whose lives have been directly impacted by organ donation.

Held at Huntington Town Hall, the event was organized in partnership with LiveOnNY, the federally designated organ procurement organization serving the Greater New York City area. The annual initiative aims to raise awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation while encouraging residents to register and share their wishes with family members.

Town Supervisor Ed Smyth opened the event by recognizing local officials, community partners, and several Town employees who have experienced organ donation firsthand, either as recipients or donors. Among them were Christian Siems, a heart transplant recipient and Eric Singer and Jonas Wagner, both kidney transplant recipients. Their presence underscored the personal impact of organ donation within the Huntington community.

Raising Awareness Around a Critical Need

“One organ donor can save up to eight lives and help 75 more by donating tissue and corneas,” Smyth said, noting that nearly 10,000 New Yorkers are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

Despite widespread support for organ donation, many residents have not formally registered. Karen Cummings of LiveOnNY explained that awareness remains one of the biggest barriers.

“Even though most people say organ donation is a good thing, the majority of New Yorkers have not said yes,” Cummings said. “We believe that the space between people who have said yes and those who are hesitant is awareness.”

She encouraged residents to learn about the process and make their wishes known, emphasizing that registration can be completed in just a few minutes online.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1120" height="1400" src="https://huntingtonmatters.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Organ-Donation-Awareness-3-1120x1400.png" alt="Christian Siems - heart transplant recipient. Photography by June Margolin

Personal Stories Highlight Impact

A central part of the event focused on personal testimony from donors and recipients, offering a firsthand look at the realities of organ donation.

A married couple, who are living kidney donors, shared their experience and the impact donation has on both recipients and families.

“When in life do you ever have the opportunity to directly affect the outcome of someone else’s life?” the husband said, describing organ donation as a way to leave a lasting legacy.

Jonas Wagner described his experience with kidney failure and the toll of dialysis, which required hours of treatment multiple times each week and significantly affected his health and daily life.

“It was a very tough process,” Wagner said, explaining how restrictive and exhausting the treatment was before receiving his transplant in 2024.

Following the transplant, Wagner said his condition improved dramatically, allowing him to return to a more normal routine.

Christian Siems, who received a heart transplant more than a decade ago, reflected on his experience after going into heart failure shortly after graduating high school.

Without organ donation, he said, he would not be alive today to share his story.

A Message of Community Impact

Elected officials also spoke about the broader importance of organ donation and the impact it can have on families and communities.

Town Clerk Andrew Raia noted that New York has made significant progress in increasing organ donor participation in recent years, after previously ranking 51st nationally – the very bottom.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1120" height="1400" src="https://huntingtonmatters.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Organ-Donation-Awareness-2-1120x1400.png" alt="Jonas Wagner - kidney transplant recipient. Photography by June Margolin

Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin shared a personal connection, describing how a family member’s life was saved through organ donation and reinforcing how critical access to transplants can be.

Several speakers emphasized that while not every family will directly experience organ donation, any family could one day depend on it.

Encouraging Residents to Register

As the ceremony concluded with the raising of the Donate Life flag, Town officials reiterated their commitment to continuing outreach efforts throughout the year.

Residents interested in learning more or registering as organ donors can visit LiveOnNY.org, where information and registration are available.

Officials also encouraged residents to discuss their wishes with family members, noting that awareness and communication play a critical role in increasing participation. The Town of Huntington plans to continue working with LiveOnNY and other advocacy organizations to promote organ donation and expand awareness across the community.

Editor’s Note: Huntington Station resident Chris Melz, a living kidney donor and owner of Two Brothers Printing, founded the Kidney Search Foundation, a nonprofit that helps people in need of a kidney transplant advocate for themselves through free promotional materials like T-shirts, car magnets, flyers, and more. The organization’s goal is simple but powerful: give patients the tools they need to share their story and find a donor.
HUNTINGTON, NY – March 27, 2026

Huntington Matters has launched a new weekly series on TikTok Live to keep residents informed about what’s happening across the Town of Huntington, New York.

Hosted by June Margolin, Dana Richter, and Diane Schaber, the Huntington Matters Weekly Update Podcast highlights local events, community discussions, safety tips, and resources for residents from Cold Spring Harbor to Commack, Asharoken to Melville, and every hamlet in between.

Watch the full episode and please subscribe to our YouTube channel.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="392" height="510" src="https://huntingtonmatters.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Seminary-Land-Now-Caumsett-Park.jpg" alt="Map of Seminary Land acquired for Caumsett State Historic Park.
A New Public Space Opens in Huntington

One of the most exciting updates this week is something many Huntington residents have never experienced before – public access to land that was previously off-limits.

A significant portion of the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception property off West Neck Road in Huntington is now open to the public as part of the Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve. Approximately 180 acres have been acquired by New York State, giving residents access to scenic natural areas that had long been closed.

The property includes walking trails and a striking amphitheater built into the landscape – a hidden gem that many are seeing for the first time. Over time, additional improvements like signage, parking, and expanded trail access are expected.

For a community that values open space, this is a meaningful and long-awaited win.

What’s Happening Around Huntington

Spring is picking up across Huntington, and the Community Calendar is filling quickly.

This weekend, the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians will host an Easter Food Drive at King Kullen in Halesite, collecting donations for the St. Hugh of Lincoln Food Pantry.

At Manor Farm, interest continues to grow in a weekly beekeeping program that recently drew more than 60 participants. The sessions will continue Saturdays through May at 11:00AM, weather permitting.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1099" height="1400" src="https://huntingtonmatters.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Huntington-Station-DRI-Streetscapes-Page-1099x1400.jpg" alt="Huntington Station's NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative Grant Streetscapes project application details from March 2023.
Families can stop by for a Easter Bunny photo fundraiser supporting Almost Home Animal Rescue, featuring spring-themed photo backdrops for pets and families – with or without the Easter Bunny – plus spring plant sales.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, residents can take advantage of Protect & Purge, a town-sponsored drive through paper shredding and medication disposal event at the Flanagan Center.

That same day, Councilwoman Jennifer Hebert will host a “Let’s Talk, Huntington” session at the South Huntington Public Library, offering residents a chance to ask questions and share concerns directly.

Students can take part in a week-long gaming experience at Valhallan Esports in Huntington, which is hosting an Spring Break Gamers Camp focused on video games like Roblox and Minecraft with team-based play in a supervised setting.

For those looking to get involved locally, Elija Farm in Huntington is hosting a volunteer orientation for residents interested in gardening, sustainability, and community-based programs. No experience is needed, and volunteers can help with planting, events, and more.

There are more than 40 events listed this week alone on the Huntington Matters Community Calendar, and residents are encouraged to submit their own events to help keep the community informed.

Please note: Events are removed from the Huntington Matters Community Calendar approximately three months after their date, so some older links may no longer be active.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1206" height="1172" src="https://huntingtonmatters.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/NYS-Burn-Ban-2026.jpg" alt="New York State Annual Statewide Burn Ban restrictions.
Community Buzz: DRI Progress, Burn Ban & Local Conversations

Several important conversations are unfolding across Huntington this week.

A major update is the upcoming Town of Huntington Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) meeting for Huntington Station, scheduled for April 7th. This project, backed by a $10 million New York State grant, is beginning to take visible shape with planned streetscape improvements along New York Avenue – including better sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and pedestrian safety features.

While larger redevelopment projects will follow the completion of sewer infrastructure, this meeting represents the first tangible step forward. Residents are encouraged to attend and share input, as community feedback will help shape the outcome.

At the same time, seasonal safety is top of mind. New York State’s residential burn ban is now in effect through May 14th, prohibiting the burning of brush and debris due to increased wildfire risk.

These conversations – from long-term development to everyday safety – reflect what neighbors are actively discussing across the Huntington Matters Community Forum.

Scam Alert Fake NYS Criminal Court Ticket Letter with QR Code. Provided by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.

Neighborhood Watch Scam and Car Theft Prevention

Local officials are also warning residents about a scam circulating in Suffolk County that closely resembles an official New York State Criminal Court parking violation notice.

The messages, which may arrive via text or email, often include official-looking language and QR codes – but they are fraudulent. Residents are urged not to scan unsolicited QR codes, click suspicious links, or provide payment information without verifying directly with official sources.

In addition, car theft remains an ongoing issue in the area, with many incidents linked to a simple but costly mistake: leaving key fobs inside vehicles. Even when cars are locked, a key fob left inside can make it easy for thieves to drive away.

Taking a few simple precautions – removing keys, locking doors, and staying alert – can go a long way in preventing these incidents.

Community Spotlight: Giving Back Locally

This week’s spotlight shines on the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 4 in Huntington.

Rooted in a mission of friendship, unity, and charity, the organization supports the community through food drives, donations, and volunteer efforts throughout the year. Their work includes supporting local food pantries, assisting veterans, and organizing seasonal drives for families in need.

For those looking to get involved, it’s an opportunity to connect with neighbors while making a meaningful impact locally.
