Miandad Khan Admitted He was Impaired by Marijuana When He Fled the Scene of an Accident and Sped into Oncoming Traffic on Deer Park Avenue
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Miandad Khan, 38, of Dix Hills, pleaded guilty to Aggravated Vehicular Assault, Driving While Impaired by Marijuana and several related charges for causing a multi-car collision in Deer Park in May 2025. The defendant struck a vehicle at an intersection and, while fleeing, drove into the opposite lane of traffic, causing a multi‑vehicle crash and injuring five people. The defendant admitted to consuming marijuana prior to the incident.
“This defendant not only drove while impaired and hit another vehicle, but he then tried to flee the scene by speeding into oncoming traffic — causing a second collision and then a third, leaving behind multiple injured victims and wrecked vehicles,” said District Attorney Tierney. “The guilty plea secured by my office ensures he is held accountable for his blatant disregard for other people’s safety.”
According to court documents and the defendant’s admission during his plea allocution, on May 17, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Khan was operating his silver 2016 Mercedes Benz E350 northbound on Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park when he struck a white 2020 Acura near the intersection of Jacqueline Way. Immediately following the crash, Khan floored his vehicle and sped over the landscape center median into the opposite lane of traffic to flee the scene.
As the defendant sped northbound in the southbound lane of Deer Park Avenue, he struck a Honda SUV occupied by two teenagers, causing their vehicle to spin out. Khan continued driving northbound through the intersection of Grand Boulevard when he crashed head-on into a Toyota Rav4 occupied by a couple in their 70’s, causing both vehicles to slam into other cars that were waiting at the traffic light.
The elderly occupants of the Toyota Rav4 had to be extracted from their vehicle before they were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital to undergo surgery for facial and spinal fractures. The teenage occupants of the Honda SUV were also transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where they received medical treatment for minor injuries. The driver of the 2020 Acura received medical treatment at Good Samaritan Hospital for her injuries as well.
Investigation later revealed that the defendant was impaired by marijuana.
On August 28, 2026, Khan pleaded guilty to the following charges before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins:
- One count of Aggravated Vehicular Assault, a Class C felony;
- Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Class D violent felonies;
- One count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor;
- One count of Assault in the Third Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Khan is due back in court on October 30, 2026, and is expected to be sentenced to two to six years in prison. He is being represented by William Keahon, Esq.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Alexander Bopp of the Vehicular Crime Bureau with investigative assistance from Detective Joseph Bianco of the Major Case Unit of the Suffolk County Police Department.
Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
