Ancestry: Poetry Workshop & Open Mic

Ancestry. Heritage. Culture. Family. Resilience. 

Join Suffolk County Poet Laureate Chip Williford for a community poetry workshop and open mic centering on the subject of ancestry: Where do you come from? What were your ancestors like? What gives you pride?

This special program will explore ancestry, heritage, culture, family, and resilience through poetry and shared experiences.

All funds generated from this event, with cooperation from the NAACP, will go toward a scholarship funding college tuition for a student from Eastern Long Island to attend Suffolk County Community College, carrying forward the NAACP national organization’s vision of an inclusive community rooted in liberation where all persons can exercise their civil and human rights without discrimination.
