HUNTINGTON, NY – April 27, 2026

On Sunday, May 3, the Huntington community will come together for a meaningful day of remembrance and generosity as the Huntington YMCA hosts the 18th annual Run/Walk in Memory of Marcie Mazzola. This year’s event carries a renewed sense of excitement and purpose, highlighted by two major additions: a brand-new race route and the introduction of a Kids Fun Run, beginning at 8:00 AM for children 10 and under.

More than just a race, this annual gathering has become a cherished tradition—one that honors the life and legacy of Marcie Mazzola while supporting children in need across the community. Each step taken by runners and walkers helps provide access to the YMCA Summer Day Camp experience and support services.

Marcie Mazzola, a 21-year-old Commack resident, tragically lost her life in a car accident on July 6, 2002. In the wake of that loss, her family and close friends turned grief into action.

This year’s event introduces a redesigned course that promises a fresh experience for both seasoned runners and first-time participants. The updated route offers a new perspective on the surrounding area while maintaining a safe and enjoyable path for all. Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to review the full course map ahead of time to familiarize themselves with the changes and plan accordingly.

The race officially begins at 8:30 AM, rain or shine, at the Huntington YMCA, located at 60 Main Street. Participants are asked to arrive by 8:15 AM, when runners and walkers will gather at the starting line on the YMCA grounds in front of the Rauch building. The race starts at 8:30 AM SHARP.

One of the most exciting additions this year is the Kids Fun Run, scheduled for 8:00 AM. Designed to engage younger members of the community, this run offers children the opportunity to participate in a fun, supportive environment while learning about the importance of giving back. Families are encouraged to bring their children out to take part, cheer each other on, and share in the spirit of the day. The fun run will be held on the back field behind the Jorge Family Healthy Living Center. This year’s theme, “Be Your Own Hero,” encourages kids to come dressed as their favorite hero—or create their own! From capes to costumes, creativity is encouraged as children run, laugh, and celebrate what makes them strong and unique. Parking and logistics have also been carefully planned to accommodate participants. Runners and supporters are invited to park at the Senior Center/Cinema Arts lot on Park Avenue. Please be sure to enter through Park Avenue, as the Jackson Avenue Entrance will be closed as of 8am.

For those looking to streamline their race-day experience, bib pickup will be available in advance. Pre-race pickup is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the YMCA Pavilion. Participants are encouraged to know their bib number ahead of time, though a self-lookup station will be available for those who need assistance. Early pickup helps reduce race-day congestion and allows runners to focus on enjoying the event.

The race is also part of the USATF-LI Grand Prix, adding a competitive edge for those who are part of the regional running circuit. However, the true heart of the event lies not in competition, but in community. Whether participants are running for a personal best, walking with friends, or simply showing up to support the cause, every contribution matters.

Local businesses and sponsors play a vital role in making the event possible each year. Their continued support, along with the generosity of donors and participants, ensures that the YMCA can expand its reach and provide meaningful opportunities for children and families. From summer camp experiences that foster confidence and friendships to support services that address critical needs, the impact of this event extends far beyond race day. All event day sponsors are permitted to set up vendor tables, including a Stretch table set up by Northwell STARS Rehab for pre- and post-race services.

What makes this run especially powerful is its ability to bring together people from all walks of life under a shared purpose. It’s a morning filled with energy, reflection, and hope—a chance to celebrate community while honoring a life that continues to inspire.
