“Where should we eat?” is a guaranteed question asked among our Huntington Matters team while working in our community. For us, the answer recently was an easy one: Red Restaurant located at 417 New York Avenue in Huntington Village. With the news that after 25 years Chef Nino is retiring and the restaurant will be closing its doors on Sunday, September 21, 2025, we knew we had to stop in one last time for brunch.

From the moment we sat down, our experience was wonderful. Our waiter, Christopher, could not have been more attentive. June Margolin has several dietary restrictions, and Red Restaurant has a Celiac Menu prepared in a dedicated kitchen space. Christopher patiently went through the menus with June, ensuring she had all the information she needed to make the right choice. He was very knowledgeable and so kind that right away we knew this would be a memorable experience. We chatted like old friends throughout the meal.

“Red’s kitchen showcases local & organic ingredients to create a menu of refined new American fare. Our chef’s hand select our seafood straight from the market in Hunts Point, while our meat is sourced from small farms, organically & humanely raised.”

We both ordered omelets from the Brunch menu made with eggs from Huntington’s Makinajian Poultry Farm. My Greco Omelet was a great combination of feta, tomato, onion, and peppers served with potatoes and toast, while June opted for the Wild Mushroom Omelet that she described as “fabulous” and also raved about the gluten free toast. Every bite was delicious, a reminder of why Red Restaurant has been a beloved dining spot for so long.

The restaurant itself is just as memorable as the food. The elegant interior and the amazing outdoor garden seating create an atmosphere that’s both warm and inviting. Whether you’ve been a longtime fan or haven’t stopped by in a while, now is the time to experience Red Restaurant’s beautiful space one last time before its final day on Sunday, September 21st. Don’t miss the chance to visit and help send off a Huntington favorite in style.

For those holding Red Restaurant gift certificates, they can be redeemed at their sister restaurants Sapsuckers, 287 Main Street, Huntington, NY or Café Red, 107 Main Street, Kings Park, NY after Red Restaurant’s final day. Christopher will be found serving at Sapsuckers after September 21st.

A statement from Red Restaurant’s website reads “Our Farewell Month- Final day of service: Sunday, September 21st. Please join us in the final weeks as we bid adieu, after 25 amazing years, to our restaurant Red. We wish Chef Nino the happiest of retirements… if that stubborn sardinian blood will allow him.

Grazie Mille! A million thank you’s to our staff, past & present, who have been the heartbeat in our kitchen & our dining room… we are eternally grateful. And to our guests, who celebrated their most precious moments with us and left us with memories we will cherish always. Thank you, thank you.”

Red Restaurant serves dinner 7 days a week and weekend lunch and Brunch from 12:00PM – 3:00PM.
