Would you get in a little boat after this? 33.33% of us said YES to The Huntington Lighthouse Tour!
The forecast for July 27, 2025 was thunderstorms in the afternoon. We checked our email every 15 minutes as the skies darkened, wondering if The Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society was going to cancel our scheduled Tour. No word. Maybe it’s only passing over land and is clear by the water. The Huntington Matters Team of June Margolin, Diane Schaber and Megan Rouse pulled into the parking lot of Gold Star Battalion Beach seconds before the skies cracked open.
One of us was brave – willing to get on the small open (no roof) shuttle boat while it was still raining. The other two: 🐔🐤. What would YOU have done?

Megan Rouse, Moderator for Huntington Matters Toured the Huntington Lighthouse on Sunday, July 27, 2025. She was the brave one of the 3 of us – willing to get on the shuttle boat after a very heavy thunderstorm! Megan loved the tour, learning about the history and restoration of this Town of Huntington treasure from Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc. volunteers. President Pam Setchell, featured in the videos, was right! The Harbor waters were calm as glass after the roiling storm.

So what happened to June and Diane?
They went out to lunch, of course! June Margolin and Diane Schaber picked up June’s husband Lance and went to Lucharito’s at 872 Walt Whitman Road in Melville to feast on delicious tacos while their clothes dried off.
