SUMMARY:Eclipse of the Sun Now – Exhibit – FREE
DESCRIPTION:One hundred years ago, George Grosz created Eclipse of the Sun (1926), a masterpiece of antifascist political art and one of the most significant paintings in the Heckscher Museum’s collection. \nTo amplify its enduring message, this museum-wide exhibition explores politically engaged art created over the last century. Selected from the collections of the Heckscher and the Art Bridges Foundation, Eclipse of the Sun Now features more than fifty works by leading artists of our time.\nEclipse of the Sun is a scathing critique of Germany’s Weimar regime. As signaled by the dollar sign darkening the sun, a symbol of life, the artwork critiques the greed and violence of the military, politicians, and industrialists. The tilted perspective, dissonant color, and ambiguous sense of space underscore the instability of the period following World War I.\nIn the 1920s, Grosz was a leader of the outspoken Berlin Dada movement. Considered a “degenerate” artist by the Nazis, he fled to the United States in 1933 in advance of World War II. Grosz lived and worked in Huntington, New York, from 1947 until shortly before his death in 1959. In 1968, the Heckscher acquired Eclipse of the Sun thanks to a remarkable crowdfunding campaign that engaged hundreds of people, from students at Huntington High School to Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller.\nSaturday, September 26, 2026 – Sunday, May 9, 2027\n12:00PM – 5:00PM\nOPEN: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays \nThe Heckscher Museum of Art\nPrime Ave\nHuntington, NY\nCost: FREE\n

SUMMARY:“Heist” an Interactive Jazz Comedy by The Sparrows – Extended for ONE MORE SHOW!
DESCRIPTION:‘Heist!’, a new production by The Sparrows, is set to premiere in a strictly limited engagement this September 2026. \nHot off their sold out Off-Broadway run, and using a jazz band, swing dance, and laser or two, The Sparrows take on the good ol’ heist movies of yore. The production is written by Brooke di Spirito ( https://www.broadwayworld.com/people/Brooke-di-Spirito/ ) and features many returning multi-talented Sparrows players. The production plays several NYC and tri-state venues, with one night on Long Island. (at The Burrow – the artist collective previously at Industry and Ninnet and George’s).\nIn ‘Heist!’, in order to steal a ex-lover’s Heart (not her real heart, but a heart shaped diamond worth one Belarusian Rubles), a group of rag-tag theives and their old semi-professional Capture the Flag buddies stage an elaborate heist. They just might accidentally end up stealing her real heart in the process. And losing the diamond.\nCast members Jonah O’Hara-David and Kendra Perry once again play opposite each other as the scorned lovers attempting to out-heist each other. The band, exactly four musicians and approximately twenty instruments, includes Shawn Berman, Darren Dutton, Anthony Speros, Miguel Sutedjo ( https://www.broadwayworld.com/people/Miguel-Sutedjo/ ), with vocals by Beatrix Postley. The team is rounded out with lindy hoppers Devon Lawler and Brooke di Spirito ( https://www.broadwayworld.com/people/Brooke-di-Spirito/ ), who also choreographed the piece. Sutedjo and Di Spirito, recent BMI Lehman-Engel Songwriting Workshop alum, have also written original music for the show.\nSaturday, September 26, 2026\n2:00PM – 4:00PM\nThe Burrow\n(in St. John’s Episcopal Church)\n12 Prospect Street\nEntrance on Main Street through the garden to the left of the church. \nHuntington NY\nCost: $20. SUMMARY:Alex Tric Art Exhibit: “Abstract Flowers and New Work” – Free
DESCRIPTION:Artist Alex Tric brings his vibrant colors and distinctive style to the Huntington Public Library with “Abstract Flowers and New Work.” \nOver the past few years, Alex Tric has showcased his work at galleries and pop-ups across Long Island and the boroughs, earning a following for his vibrant colors, cheeky subjects, and irresistible sense of fun.\nThis exhibit includes a collection of Abstract Flowers, centered on bold and electric flowers that explore how we are shaped by our environments. The collection reflects on what we choose to let into our lives—the people, content, and ideas that help us grow or hold us back—and reminds us that while we may not control every circumstance, we can choose to move, prune, and replant ourselves in healthier soil.\nWednesday, September 2 – Monday, September 28, 2026\nHuntington Public Library\n338 Main St\nHuntington, NY\nCost – Free\nArtwork by Alex Tric.\n

SUMMARY:Architecture and Collections Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tour “Eagles Nest” and the Vanderbilt Estate \nTake an intriguing walking tour of the Vanderbilt Estate with knowledgeable Museum educators. Learn about the history of the Eagle’s Nest estate; Warren & Wetmore’s design and exterior architectural details of the 24-room Spanish Revival mansion; and the striking ironwork of Samuel Yellin, considered the greatest iron artisan of the early 20th century, and visit the marine, natural history, and cultural artifact collections.\nBeth Laxer-Limmer, Director of Education, said, “The grounds are beautiful during the summer and the walking tour is a perfect way to be introduced to the history of the estate. Beauty is abundant in the eclectic architecture and the unique details that reflect William Vanderbilt’s interests.”\nWilliam K. Vanderbilt II (1878-1944) spent summers at his Eagle’s Nest estate and mansion on Northport Bay between 1910 and 1944. He and his wife, Rosamond, hosted intimate gatherings and entertained well-known guests, such as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Pierre Cartier, Conde Nast, Charles Lindbergh, and the Tiffanys. Eagle’s Nest is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.\nThis guided tour of the estate includes the architecture, history of the Vanderbilt family, and collections.
