SUMMARY:Reel Jazz: The Girls in the Band + Live Jazz with Danica
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Reel Jazz Series, a collaboration between Cinema Arts Centre and Jazz at the Barn,\nthis special event pairs a screening of The Girls in the Band—the acclaimed documentary celebrating the pioneering women of jazz—with a live performance by DANICA, an all-women jazz trio featuring Audrey Silver, Alicyn Yaffee, and Hyuna Park.\nDuring the 1930s and 40s, hundreds of women toured the country in glamorous all-girl bands, while others performed alongside their male counterparts in leading jazz ensembles. Yet by the 1950s, many female jazz musicians had disappeared from the professional scene, their stories and accomplishments largely forgotten. Through rare archival footage and personal interviews, The Girls in the Band brings these powerful and inspiring stories back into the spotlight. (2011, 81 mins)\nThe screening will be paired with a live performance by DANICA, an all-women jazz ensemble led by vocalist Audrey Silver with guitarist Alicyn Yaffee and pianist Hyuna Park. Known for soulful, collaborative, and nuanced performances, the group celebrates the artistry, creativity, and enduring influence of women in jazz.\nTogether, film and music honor the groundbreaking women whose artistry helped shape jazz history. \nSunday, June 28, 2026\n3:00PM – 5:30PM\nThe Cinema Arts Centre\n423 Park Ave\nHuntington, NY\nCost: $35 Public | $30 Members. SUMMARY:Lefferts Tide Mill Tour

But, as explained on the tour, the many bays and coves, with 8 foot tides, were an unfailing source of power. High tide filled the mill pond through the tide gate, and then, at low tide the trapped water was let out to turn the water wheel. The Lefferts mill is unique in that the scores of tide mills on Long Island’s north shore, it is the only one left with its building intact, on its original dam and with its original massive wooden gears. You must see this Long Island treasure!\nThanks to a partnership with the Lefferts Tide Mill & Preserve, the Huntington Historical Society is able to offer tours of this historic treasure. The tour begins with a short boat ride from Gold Star Battalion Beach into gorgeous Puppy Cove, past waterfront mansions with sightings of egrets, ospreys, and visiting waterfowl. Your guide will explain the workings of the mill with some related social history, and each tour participant will receive a comprehension, illustrated booklet.\nVarious Dates\nVarious Times\nGold Star Beach\nWest Shore Road\nHuntington, NY\nPlease note: the boat and mill are not handicapped accessible, and climbing in and out of the boat is necessary. SUMMARY:Just Powers: Long Island Biennial 2026 – FREE
DESCRIPTION:“The Long Island Biennial”, now in its ninth iteration, deepens connections between artists across Nassau and Suffolk counties and their communities. \nThe exhibition uses the Declaration of Independence (1776) and George Grosz’s masterpiece of political art, Eclipse of the Sun (1926), as touchstones for thinking about power, national ideals, and public life. The Declaration of Independence set forth aspirational principles of liberty and equality, although its promises remain incomplete.\nA century and a half later, George Grosz’s searing painting exposed the corruption he saw at the heart of modern society. From an open call that attracted nearly six hundred submissions, the guest jurors selected 73 works by 69 artists that respond to these cultural and political legacies.\nJust Powers brings together the work of Long Island artists with diverse perspectives to reveal how democratic ideals are interpreted, challenged, and reimagined today.\nMay 15, 2026 – September 15, 2026\n12:00PM – 5:00PM\nThe Heckscher Museum of Art\n2 Prime Ave\nHuntington, NY\nJust Powers was juried by Tripoli Patterson, founder and owner, Tripoli Gallery; photographer Andreas Rentsch, Associate Professor of Photography and Chair of the Art Department, Lycoming College; and Dr. Lauren Rosati, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was curated by Dr. Meredith A. Brown, Consulting Curator of Contemporary Art, The Heckscher Museum of Art.\n

SUMMARY:Architecture and Collections Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tour “Eagles Nest” and the Vanderbilt Estate \nTake an intriguing walking tour of the Vanderbilt Estate with knowledgeable Museum educators. Learn about the history of the Eagle’s Nest estate; Warren & Wetmore’s design and exterior architectural details of the 24-room Spanish Revival mansion; and the striking ironwork of Samuel Yellin, considered the greatest iron artisan of the early 20th century, and visit the marine, natural history, and cultural artifact collections.\nBeth Laxer-Limmer, Director of Education, said, “The grounds are beautiful during the summer and the walking tour is a perfect way to be introduced to the history of the estate. Beauty is abundant in the eclectic architecture and the unique details that reflect William Vanderbilt’s interests.”\nWilliam K. Vanderbilt II (1878-1944) spent summers at his Eagle’s Nest estate and mansion on Northport Bay between 1910 and 1944. He and his wife, Rosamond, hosted intimate gatherings and entertained well-known guests, such as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Pierre Cartier, Conde Nast, Charles Lindbergh, and the Tiffanys. Eagle’s Nest is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.\nThis guided tour of the estate includes the architecture, history of the Vanderbilt family, and collections. This tour does not include the residence. \nPlease arrive at the marble columns 10 minutes before the start of the tour to meet the educator.\nTickets must be presented upon arrival.\nIf you are a member, please register/sign in to receive your member discount when purchasing tickets.\nPlease wear comfortable shoes as there is considerable walking on the tour.\nVarious Dates:\nSaturday, May 30, 2026\nThursday, June 25, 2026\nFriday, July 24, 2026\nFriday, August 28, 2026\nFriday, September 25, 2026\nSaturday, October 17, 2026\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM\nSuffolk County Vanderbilt Museum & Planetarium\n180 Little Neck Road\nCenterport, NY\nCost: Adult – $16, Senior – $15, Child (5-17) – $14, Under 5 Free! \nTo purchase Tickets for May 30th: CLICK HERE ( https://47321.blackbaudhosting.com/47321/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=e1d9b86e-845d-478c-a509-25700f659663 )\n                                        June 25th: CLICK HERE ( https://47321.blackbaudhosting.com/47321/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=178f5c33-6c25-498e-9049-4195808083cd )\n                                         July 24th: CLICK HERE ( https://47321.blackbaudhosting.com/47321/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=3712b238-82e5-4a9b-b36d-e5091b887d47 )\n                                    August 28th: CLICK HERE ( https://47321.blackbaudhosting.com/47321/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=9e9ed736-d8fe-46c5-a0f8-f7f06d867439 )\n                              September 25th: CLICK HERE ( https://47321.blackbaudhosting.com/47321/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=5a768b18-103d-4a1d-8a6f-5e26090f7e7d )\n                                   October 17th: CLICK HERE ( https://47321.blackbaudhosting.com/47321/page.aspx?pid=196&tab=2&txobjid=9dc24e7d-4875-4b0b-9bbf-380a74c9a6da )\n
