SUMMARY:4th Annual Walk Bike LI Summit – Free
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe summit will focus on the growing impact of micromobility devices — including e-bikes and e-scooters — and the legal, medical, and public safety challenges surrounding their use. \nAs e-bikes and e-scooters become increasingly common on Long Island streets, concerns over safety, enforcement, and rider awareness are also growing.\nA panel of experts is expected to discuss accident prevention, traffic laws, rider responsibilities, pedestrian safety, helmet use, enforcement challenges, and possible solutions aimed at improving roadway safety across Long Island.\nOrganizers say the event is intended to educate residents, policymakers, parents, and community leaders about both the benefits and risks associated with the rapidly expanding use of electric mobility devices.\nOrganizers say the issue has become increasingly urgent as pediatric trauma admissions related to e-bikes and e-scooters surged by more than 900% at a local children’s hospital. Officials say the sharp increase in severe injuries is largely driven by riders under 16 years old, many of whom are riding without helmets and violating New York State micromobility laws. \nThursday, June 11, 2026 11:00 AM\nCatholic Health Medical Building 245 Old Country Road Melville, NY\nCost: Free \nTo register for this free event CLICK HERE ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/4th-annual-walk-bike-li-summit-tickets-1985939781346?utm_experiment=test_share_listing&aff=ebdsshios )\nFor more information contact Liz Lee at 516-571-1252.\nRELATED ARTICLES ON HUNTINGTONMATTERS.COM:\nSuffolk County Enforces New E-Bike and E-Scooter Laws Focused on Safety ( https://huntingtonmatters.com/suffolk-county-ebike-laws-huntington-ny/ )\nMay 2026 Suffolk County Police Department 2nd Precinct Community Meeting ( https://huntingtonmatters.com/may-2026-scpd-2nd-precinct-community-meeting-huntington-ny/ )\nHuntington Matters Weekly Update: E-Bike Enforcement, Community Updates & Huntington Station Shooting ( https://huntingtonmatters.com/huntington-matters-weekly-update-shooting-e-bike-enforcement/ )\nFlawed Drugged Driving Law and E-Bikes Discussed Law Enforcement Community Advisory Board Meeting ( https://huntingtonmatters.com/law-enforcement-community-advisory-board-meeting/ )\nHosted by the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety, Walk Safe Long Island, and Catholic Health.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Sumuk Ink Painting Workshop – Walt Whitman Birthplace
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Walt Whitman Birthplace Association (WWBA) is thrilled to announce the return of acclaimed artist and educator Professor Jimin Bae for a special, immersive Sumuk (East Asian ink wash) painting workshop. \nFollowing previous sold-out sessions, this highly anticipated event offers participants a unique opportunity to explore traditional ink aesthetics on the historic grounds where America’s greatest poet was born.\nSumuk painting is a revered, centuries-old art form that uses black ink in various concentrations to capture the spiritual essence of a subject rather than its literal appearance. Professor Bae, a master of the craft known for her dynamic teaching style, will guide attendees through the fundamental brush strokes, water control techniques, and philosophical concepts that define this meditative artistic practice.\nThe workshop is designed to bridge Eastern artistic traditions with the naturalistic, free-verse spirit of Walt Whitman. Participants will learn to channel their surroundings into expressive ink landscapes and floral compositions, creating their own masterpieces to take home.\nOpen to all levels, from absolute beginners to experienced artists.\nSaturday, June 6, 2026 10:00 AM\nWalt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site 246 Old Walt Whitman Road Huntington Station, NY 11746\nCost: $40.00 \nTo register CLICK HERE ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/korean-sumuk-painting-with-professor-jimin-bae-tickets-1988107183103?aff=oddtdtcreator )\nAll traditional materials, including high-quality ink, brushes, and rice paper, will be provided. Space is strictly limited to ensure personalized instruction from Professor Bae. Pre-registration is required, and early booking is strongly recommended due to high demand.\nThe Walt Whitman Birthplace Association preserves the birthplace of poet Walt Whitman and celebrates his legacy through educational programs, poetry readings, and diverse cultural workshops that foster creative expression in the community.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Our Next Fundraiser – and you can bring your dog(s) if they are manageable!  BARKIN BRUNCH! \nJune isn’t too hot out (usually) so this should be fabulous as an outdoor event! This is exciting! We are getting the red carpet Hollywood treatment! THEY ARE LITERALLY ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET FOR ALL OUR GUESTS! With or without your dog – put those sunglasses and sequins on – walk the red carpet and their photographer will be taking tons of pictures. So much fun. There is no cost to attend, you buy your own food and drinks (their food is great) and hang out with us on the outdoor patio – parts of the patio are covered. It’s so much fun! There is also a doggie menu! You can also just come to visit or buy raffles – there is no obligation to buy lunch or drinks. Watch the dogs parade around and we will have over the top fabulous raffles. Great music too! If your dog attends – we have gifts for them. If they come dressed Hollywood Style – they will also get a bigger bag of Tailbangers all natural treats to take home! We will also be doing pop-up Hollywood trivia questions – and winners each get a prize. Please join us! We need your support to continue our mission. Money is so tight and the veterinary needs are great. The more participation we get – the more offers to benefit from a sponsored event are sent our way. SUMMARY:Just Powers: Long Island Biennial 2026 – FREE
DESCRIPTION:“The Long Island Biennial”, now in its ninth iteration, deepens connections between artists across Nassau and Suffolk counties and their communities. \nThe exhibition uses the Declaration of Independence (1776) and George Grosz’s masterpiece of political art, Eclipse of the Sun (1926), as touchstones for thinking about power, national ideals, and public life. The Declaration of Independence set forth aspirational principles of liberty and equality, although its promises remain incomplete.\nA century and a half later, George Grosz’s searing painting exposed the corruption he saw at the heart of modern society. From an open call that attracted nearly six hundred submissions, the guest jurors selected 73 works by 69 artists that respond to these cultural and political legacies.\nJust Powers brings together the work of Long Island artists with diverse perspectives to reveal how democratic ideals are interpreted, challenged, and reimagined today.\nMay 15, 2026 – September 15, 2026\n12:00PM – 5:00PM\nThe Heckscher Museum of Art\n2 Prime Ave\nHuntington, NY\nJust Powers was juried by Tripoli Patterson, founder and owner, Tripoli Gallery; photographer Andreas Rentsch, Associate Professor of Photography and Chair of the Art Department, Lycoming College; and Dr. Lauren Rosati, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was curated by Dr. Meredith A. Brown, Consulting Curator of Contemporary Art, The Heckscher Museum of Art.\n
