SUMMARY:Town of Huntington Archives Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join Town of Huntington Archivist Antonia S. Mattheou for a tour of the Town Archives and explore records documenting Huntington’s history dating back to 1653. \nCreated in 1993 under the direction of Town Clerk and Records Management Officer Jo-Ann Raia, the Town of Huntington Archives houses 2,886.25 linear feet of permanent records documenting the Town’s establishment and growth. The manuscript collection consists of 201 volumes, 200 maps and drawings, and 55 linear feet of material dating back to the Town’s founding in 1653.\nThe collection includes Indian deeds and patents, chattel mortgages, thatch and underwater leases, documents pertaining to the Revolutionary Era and Civil War, court records, records relating to the abolition of slavery, Town Trustee records and more.\nIn celebration of the nation’s Semiquincentennial, this year’s Archives exhibit is “George Washington’s Visit to Long Island in 1790 and the Culper Spy Ring.” The exhibit includes documents and objects dating to the American Revolution, including the 1774 Declaration of Rights of the Town of Huntington, lists of Huntington residents who took the oath of allegiance to the British King, and the statue of Nathan Hale.\nDuring September and October, the Archives is also hosting an exhibit from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office on the second floor of Town Hall.\nTours are approximately 1½ hours.\nTuesday, October 13, 2026 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM\nTuesday, October 27, 2026 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM\nHuntington Town Hall 100 Main St Huntington, NY\nCost: $10 Member  $15 Non-Member \nTo Register for Oct 13 CLICK HERE ( https://huntingtonhistoricalsociety.org/events/tour-the-town-of-huntington-archives/ )\nTo Register for Oct 27 CLICK HERE ( https://huntingtonhistoricalsociety.org/events/tour-the-town-of-huntington-archives-2/ )\n
